Study on English-Taught Programmes in European Higher Education

In order to keep track of the development of English-taught programmes in Europe, ACA and GES repeated a study on this issue undertaken in 2001 about five years later. This time, a larger number of countries were included in the surveys, and the definition of English-taught programmes was slightly adapted, in the light of earlier experiences. The results of the surveys were not only used to produce a new publication, but also to create a searchable online database of English-medium programmes in Europe (GES Database of Programmes Taught in English, to be accessed via:, for the use of potential students looking for such education. But by and large, the design of the study remained the same, which makes it possible to compare the situation half a decade ago with that of today.
